Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town’s original meeting in September was abandoned after 79 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch, and their fixture will be replayed in its entirety on Tuesday.

Rovers have only won once at Ewood Park this season and could come unstuck again when they take on a Town team looking to respond from Friday’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford.

Blackburn Rovers vs Ipswich Town preview

September showers curtailed Blackburn and Ipswich’s previous meeting and they reconvene at Ewood Park on Tuesday evening.

Rovers led 1-0 through Todd Cantwell’s penalty with the Tractor Boys down to ten men when the original game was abandoned after 79 minutes, a point the Lancashire side made when it was ruled the fixture would be replayed in its entirety.

It is unclear if Cantwell will feature in the rematch as he continues his recovery from a knee injury, rumours about which he described as “nonsense” in a social media post a few days ago.

The winger hasn’t played since October’s 1-1 draw at Stoke and his side have been typically inconsistent ever since, recording four wins, as many defeats, and Saturday’s stalemate at Wrexham in their nine games during that period.

Rovers, currently 18th in the table, have lost their last two at Ewood Park, while Ipswich had won three away games in a row prior to Friday’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford.

That has at least given them an extra 24 hours to prepare and a victory in Lancashire would take them into the playoff places.

A top-six finish seems like the minimum Kieran McKenna’s side should be aiming for and fortune has shone on them with this game coming at a decent time in the campaign.

Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael must be cursing his luck at the circumstances, but with only one home win all season and six defeats, another frustrating evening under the Ewood Park lights beckons for the hosts.
