Lucy Liu Celebrates Life as a Mom with Son Rockwell

Lucy Liu has expressed her deep love for motherhood, celebrating the joys and challenges of being a mom to her son, Rockwell Lloyd, whom she welcomed via surrogate on August 27, 2015. In a candid interview with PEOPLE back in 2016, Liu reflected on her choice to pursue surrogacy, explaining that her busy career made it difficult for her to know when she would have the opportunity to start a family.
As Rockwell grows older, he is beginning to recognize the extent of his mother’s fame. During a promotional event for her latest holiday film, “Red One,” Liu shared a heartwarming moment from their time together. She recounted how Rockwell, while watching her on screen, hugged her arm and expressed his pride in her, which nearly brought Liu to tears.
Liu often shares glimpses into their life in New York City, showcasing her relationship with Rockwell through social media. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she introduced her son to the world, describing him as “the new little man in my life.” She has also taken Rockwell to significant events, including her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony, where he supported her as she made history as the second Chinese American woman to receive the honor.
The actress, who is also a talented painter, introduced Rockwell to the arts from an early age, taking him on trips to places like the Whitney Museum of American Art. In a nostalgic moment captured in a photo, Liu shared a bowl of fruit with her son during his toddler years, a reminder of the simple joys they experience together.
