What Did Paul Dano Do to Quentin Tarantino?

Quentin Tarantino is a textbook definition of a cinephile. If he has something to say about your acting performance and it’s bad, it’s twisting the knife. The director listed his 20 favorite movies on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, and when discussing his no. 5 pick, Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, he had a shocking view of Paul Dano’s performance as twins Paul & Eli Sunday. “There Will Be Blood would stand a good chance at being no. 1 or 2 if it didn’t have a big, giant flaw in it … and the flaw is Paul Dano,” Tarantino shared as he compared Dano’s performance to Daniel Day-Lewis. “Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, but it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister.” Ouch!

Tarantino is a man of solutions and gave his pitch for who should’ve played the Sunday brothers, even if his pick was only 15 at the time of release. “Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role,” Tarantino pitched before going back to Dano. “He’s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest fucking actor in SAG.” If you wanted to challenge Tarantino to a Fortnite match, the ball is in your court, Paul.
