Former Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is in negotiations to become the next head football coach at California, according to multiple reports.
The 44-year-old Lupoi has spent the last four seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Oregon. He spent five seasons at Alabama under Nick Saban, working as an analyst, linebackers coach and defensive coordinator and helping the Crimson Tide to national championships in 2015 and 2017.
Lupoi, a California native, was a defensive lineman at Cal from 2000-05. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as defensive line coach from 2008-2011 and also coaching in the NFL after leaving Alabama.
Lupoi replaces Justin Wilcox, who was fired on Nov. 23 after nine seasons. The Bears (7-5) will learn their bowl destination on Sunday.
