Big tech ‘sabotage’ a risk after social media ban

The organisation whose campaign led Australia to introduce world-first laws lifting the minimum age to use social media to 16 years old has warned there may be “deliberate sabotage” to derail the rollout and has called for swift penalties for tech giants not adhering to new rules.

Michael “Wippa” Wipfli, the Nova FM Sydney breakfast radio presenter who co-founded the group 36 Months in May last year, said he believed tech companies would take advantage of some of the confusion around implementing the ban and were focused on not letting it spread to other countries.
