Death Notice of Gabriel (Gay) O’Brien (Barna, Galway)

Formerly of Upper Salthill and Retired Garda Síochána

 

It is with deep sadness that Sandra and the O’Brien family shares the news of Gay’s death with you. He died after putting up a great fight with his illness at Galway University Hospital in the early hours of 1st December 2025. Dearly beloved son of the late Peter and May O’Brien.

He is deeply mourned by his much-loved wife Sandra, son Shane, daughter Paola and her partner Antonio, his adoring granddaughter Isabella, family and friends. He will also be remembered fondly in particular by his brothers John and Paul, sister-in-law Marie, brother-in-law John and his wife Ann, Paul’s partner Mary, nephews and nieces, Kieran, Sarah, Lisa, and Hannah, the extended O’Brien and O’Neill family, neighbours, colleagues and great friends. House Private and Family flowers only, please. Memorial Donations if desired to Cancer Care West.

Gay will Repose at the ‘Cillín’ within the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna (H91 A2T7) from 5.30 p.m. Removal into the Church at 7.00 p.m.

 

Thursday, 4th December 2025

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Gay at 12 noon in the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna (H91 A2T7). Live Streaming link https://www.churchtv.ie/barna/ Mass can also be listened to on Radio FM 106.6 (the signal is not available in every part of the parish).

 

Friday, 5th December 2025

Private Cremation at 12 noon at Shannon Crematorium.
