India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: Raipur weather forecast and pitch report
India take on South Africa in the second one-day international at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday.
A record-breaking 52nd ODI century by Virat Kohli, combined with a quickfire 57 from Rohit Sharma, led India to a 17-run victory in the series opener at Ranchi.
Will Rain Play Spoilsport In 2nd ODI?
Weather conditions in Raipur on Wednesday are ideal for cricket, with no rain forecast and afternoon temperatures around 28°C. Unlike Ranchi, where the evening turned noticeably chilly, Raipur’s temperature is expected to drop below 20°C only after 9 p.m. — by which time the second ODI will be close to finishing.
Raipur Weather Forecast
From early afternoon to late evening, conditions remain dry with no chance of rain, though air quality stays consistently unhealthy to very unhealthy. At 1 PM, temperatures hover around 27°C with intermittent clouds and a light northeast breeze at 11 km/h. By 2 and 3 PM, it warms slightly to 28°C, with similar wind speeds, though cloud cover becomes thicker by 3 PM. Through 4 and 5 PM, temperatures gradually ease to 27°C and 26°C, with conditions shifting between intermittent clouds and partial sunshine. By early evening at 6 PM, the temperature dips to 24°C with clear skies and humidity rising to 46%. The evening continues to cool steadily — 22°C at 7 PM and 21°C at 8 PM — before dropping below 20°C by 9 PM. Wind remains gentle from the east, while humidity climbs past 50%, making late evening feel cooler even as air quality worsens into the “very unhealthy” range.
Raipur Pitch Report
Raipur has hosted limited international cricket, but the venue has already seen varied contests. In January 2023, India bowled New Zealand out for just 108 in the only ODI played there, then comfortably chased the target in a little over 20 overs. Later that year, the venue witnessed a more competitive game when India defeated Australia by 17 runs in a T20I after posting 174, demonstrating that conditions can significantly vary.
The black-soil pitch in Raipur generally favours bowlers but is not expected to replicate the extreme conditions that led to New Zealand’s collapse. It is also unlikely to be as batter-friendly as the Ranchi surface, where an extraordinary 682 runs were scored across two innings in the series opener. Instead, teams can expect a more balanced contest between bat and ball.
