Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record With Another Fifty Against South Africa

Virat Kohli is continuing from where he left off in the first One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Ranchi, where he slammed his 52nd ton in the format. Now, in the second ODI in Raipur, he has slammed another fifty and looks set to get a big one.

With this, he now holds the record of hitting the most 50-plus scores by an Indian against South Africa in international cricket, going past Sachin Tendulkar.

The record for the most 50-plus scores against South Africa is held by Ricky Ponting with 34, followed by Kohli, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Kumar Sangakkara, who are at 26. 

Kohli has been in terrific form of late. This is the third consecutive score in excess of 50. He scored an unbeaten 74 in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, and followed that up with 135 against South Africa in the previous game. 

The 37-year-old is now gunning for his 53rd ODI century and if he gets there, it will be his 84th ton in international cricket.
