LSU football’s top two recruits have reportedly decided not to sign this week. Here’s why.

The top two prospects committed to LSU football’s 2026 recruiting class have decided not to sign during the NCAA’s early signing period, their agent told Rivals on Tuesday night.

Both University High star Lamar Brown and Edna Karr standout Richard Anderson — the pair of five-star defensive linemen who could serve as the pillars of coach Lane Kiffin’s first LSU freshman class — are still committed to the Tigers. Rivals reported, however, that they want to see Kiffin finalize his staff before they officially sign.

“They’re staying committed to them,” their unnamed agent told Rivals, “and they want to see how committed they are,” he continued. “They’re staying committed, but we don’t know what the future holds.”

Kiffin has most of his offensive staff in place. By Monday evening, LSU had already agreed to terms with offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator George McDonald and inside wide receivers coach Sawyer Jordan. On Tuesday, the program reportedly hired Ole Miss offensive analyst Dane Stevens as its new quarterbacks coach.

But it’s unclear, as of Tuesday evening, if Kiffin will retain interim coach Frank Wilson, defensive coordinator Blake Baker, or any of the other defensive coaches from Brian Kelly’s staff.

Wilson is a key recruiter, especially for New Orleans-area prospects. He worked on Kiffin’s Tennessee staff in 2009. LSU is open to retaining Baker, but he interviewed for Tulane’s vacant head coaching job on Monday.

“They had relationships with the old staff, with Blake (Baker) and Frank (Wilson). They want to get a chance to build a relationship with the new staff,” Brown and Anderson’s agent told Rivals.

Brown is the second-best recruit in the country, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He committed to LSU in July and visited with Kiffin on Sunday in the team’s practice facility.

Anderson is a top-30 national recruit. He committed to the Tigers in June.

The NCAA’s early signing period runs from Wednesday through Friday.
