Risk of hail and thunderstorms amid ‘fairly changeable’ weather this week, says Met Éireann

There will be some scattered showers early this morning, especially in the western half of the country, as sunny spells develop.

However, it will gradually turn cloudier from the southwest, bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle in Munster and Connacht in the afternoon, slowly extending further northeastwards in the evening.

Temperatures are expected to range between six and 11C, becoming the mildest for southern coasts, with possible freshening winds at times in the south and west in the evening.

Tonight will be cloudy and wet for some time, with the rain gradually becoming confined to the northeast by Thursday morning.

It will be followed by a mixture of clear weather and showers, some of which will become heavy, bringing a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms.

Temperatures are expected to drop to between zero and 5 °C, with possible fresher winds in the south and east.

Tomorrow will see rain in the northeast, but it will gradually clear in the morning, leaving sunny spells with scattered showers for the western half of the country.

Some showers will turn heavy again, along with a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms.

More widespread showers and longer spells of rain will spread from the west in the afternoon and evening, with temperatures between 6 and 10C.

Showers and longer spells of rain are also on the cards for tomorrow night, mainly in the north.

However, it will turn mostly dry for a time before rain moves in over the south and west by morning.

Temperatures will drop to 1 and 6C, remaining the coolest in the north and east, with some winds turning fresh through the night.

The national forecaster said the weather this week will be changeable, turning milder with rain and showers, but there will also be some dry intervals.

Met Éireann meteorologist Andrew Doran-Sherlock said: “Our weather will be fairly changeable over the coming days with spells of rain and showers.”

“It could turn rather windy on Friday, but there’ll still be some good dry and sunny intervals, too,” he added.
