As early signing day announcements roll in for Kansas State, reports share that change is set to take place atop the program.
According to a report from The Mercury out of Manhattan, Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman is set to retire as early as today.
FootballScoop can confirm this is in the works.
At 58, Klieman just wrapped up his seventh season leading the Wildcats, where he has put together a 54-37 record. The 2022 season under Klieman culminated in a Big 12 title.
Klieman’s current contract takes him through the 2032 season.
Before taking over the Wildcats, Klein served as the head coach at North Dakota State, leading the Bison to four FCS national titles in five seasons. He put together a remarkable 69-6 record leading the Fargo powerhouse.
The Wildcats went 6-6 this past fall and are set to play in a bowl game that has yet to be announced.
The report adds that Texas A&M offensive coordinator, and legendary former Kansas State player Collin Klein is set to replace Klieman.
FootballScoop can also confirm that Klein is the choice to take over.
Just 36-years old, Klein has established himself as one of the top offensive coordinators in college football.
He left his alma mater two seasons ago to become Mike Elko’s offensive play caller in College Station, and has been in the mix for a number of head coaching opportunities the past few seasons. He was deep into the head coaching search at USF to replace Alex Golesh before this opportunity popped up.
Kansas State is holding their early signing day press conference at 11am later today, where Klieman will surely have the opportunity to respond to the reports.
