Andy Farrell wasn’t going to make himself a hostage to fortune with his reaction to the World Cup pool draw, but his ambition around the 2027 tournament was always that they were going to Australia with the intention of winning it.

So, as he was asked today about breaking the glass ceiling of a quarter-final the coach was more interested in the tournament overall.
