What is Netflix’s Goodbye June About?

Set just before Christmas, Goodbye June tells the story of a family thrown into emotional upheaval when the matriarch, June, suddenly faces a serious health crisis.

As her health declines, the once lively lady is confined to bed. Now, her four adult children, along with their exasperating father, are forced to come together, confronting old rifts, buried resentments, and complicated relationships, all while dealing with grief, love, and the uncertain final goodbye.

According to the official synopsis, the mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms. What follows is a mix of heartbreak, humor, raw emotion, and family dynamics, as the family navigates loss and strained familial bonds.

Produced by 55 Jugglers and distributed by Netflix, the film’s screenplay is inspired by Winslet losing her mother to ovarian cancer, after a long battle (via The Hollywood Reporter). While Anders wasn’t planning to make a movie, it was only after his mother read the finished draft and convinced him that the draft turned into a film script.
