Marcus Stokes Enters Transfer Portal After Stellar Season at UWF

Marcus Stokes, the standout quarterback for the University of West Florida (UWF), has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, marking a significant transition in his collegiate career. This comes in the wake of a remarkable season in which he led his team to a 10-2 record and a semifinal appearance in the NCAA Division II Super Region 2.
Stokes had a prolific season, finishing with an impressive 3,297 passing yards, 30 touchdown passes, and 13 interceptions. Additionally, he contributed to the running game, amassing 367 yards and scoring 10 rushing touchdowns. His outstanding performances earned him the title of Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and he is currently a nominee for the prestigious Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the NCAA Division II Player of the Year.
Despite his success on the field, Stokes’ season came to a bittersweet end. He suffered a head injury early in the fourth quarter during the Argos’ 24-17 defeat to Newberry on November 29, which prevented him from returning to the game. Prior to this, he also demonstrated his skills in eight games during the previous season, throwing for 1,540 yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while adding 163 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Stokes’ journey to UWF began at Nease High School, where he graduated in 2023 as a three-star recruit and was rated the 33rd quarterback nationally according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. Initially, he verbally committed to the University of Florida in June 2022. However, his commitment ended in November 2022 following the emergence of a video in which he used a racial slur while singing along to a rap song, leading to the Gators rescinding their offer.
