Leeds United’s upcoming Premier League game against Chelsea is being touted as ‘crucial’ for the future of manager Daniel Farke. The Whites take on Enzo Maresca’s side, hoping to halt a four-game losing streak.

Upon their return to the top flight, Leeds made a competitive start to the season, securing 11 points from their first nine games, which included three victories and two draws.

However, following a 2-1 win over West Ham in late October, the Whites have suffered four straight losses, succumbing to Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Manchester City. This run has seen Leeds slip into the relegation zone, on par with 17th-place West Ham and just one point behind Forest in 16th place.

The mounting losses have increased the pressure on under-fire head coach Farke, with Sky Sports labelling Wednesday night’s clash with Chelsea as ‘pivotal’ for the German’s tenure.

It’s reported that Leeds board are worried about the team’s recent slump in form and there will be ‘serious conversations’ if the current losing streak extends to five matches.

Farke adjusted his tactics during the second half of Saturday’s loss to City, sparking a comeback from his team as they rallied from 2-0 down to draw level at 2-2. However, Leeds were ultimately defeated, with Phil Foden netting his second goal of the game in stoppage time.

Speaking after his team’s loss at the Etihad Stadium, Farke commented: “Congrats to Man City, we played one of the best sides in the UK. One of the best sides in the world.

“If you concede so soon, of course it does something with the lads. We changed at half time in our pressing and passing angles against in our game.

“We fully deserved to equalise. Both teams could have won it. Man City players full of class. Foden goal through many legs, decisive moment for them. They should take lots of pride and confidence.

“Deserved to take something out of this game. Disappointed because wanted to win three points but after so many sucker punches – to show such a performance should give us lots of belief.”

Having just faced the league’s current runners-up, Leeds now turn their attention to third-placed Chelsea this evening.

The Blues secured a hard-earned draw at home against Arsenal on Sunday, despite being reduced to 10 men in the opening period and watching the Gunners control proceedings after the break.
