MILWAUKEE — After a baseline drive that ended with an assist to AJ Green cutting into the lane, Giannis Antetokounmpo collapsed to the floor in an apparent noncontact injury as he was making his way up the floor three minutes into the Milwaukee Bucks game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
Antetokounmpo sat on the floor, asking for Bucks coach Doc Rivers to call a timeout as teammate Kevin Porter Jr. committed a foul to stop play. Rivers called a timeout, and Antetokounmpo remained seated on the other end of the floor to start the timeout before eventually getting up and limping to the Bucks bench under his own power.

After briefly sitting on the bench at the start of the timeout, Antetokounmpo limped back to the Bucks locker room before play started again. The Bucks trailed the Pistons 10-4 with 9:00 remaining in the first quarter when the two-time NBA MVP exited. Milwaukee announced via X he would not return to the game because of a right calf strain.
When speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s game, Doc Rivers said he believed the Bucks ruled out an Achilles injury for Antetokounmpo, who underwent an MRI after the Bucks’ 113-109 win.
