Alex Ovechkin becomes seventh player in NHL history to record 800 points on the road

Alex Ovechkin made more NHL history in the Washington Capitals’ 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Ovechkin recorded secondary assists on the team’s first two goals of the night, giving him 800 road points in his career.

According to Capitals PR, Ovechkin is only the seventh player in NHL history to record 800 points in away games.

Ovechkin joins five Hockey Hall of Famers and another who will be there once he ends his career.

Ovechkin reached the mark after two great plays. His first assist of the night came after sending a centering pass on the power play to Tom Wilson for a redirect. Darcy Kuemper made the initial stop, but Ryan Leonard retrieved the rebound and brilliantly sent the puck back to Wilson, who tipped the puck home. The goal gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 14:50 of the first period.

Ovechkin’s second assist on the night came during a two-on-one break with Connor McMichael. After sending the puck to McJesus, the Capitals centerman dished to Anthony Beauvillier, who was hustling and crashing the net. Beauvillier redirected the puck home to give the Capitals a 2-1 lead 1:18 into the third period. It would stand as the game-winning goal.

Ovechkin now has 1,650 points (909g, 741a) in 1,518 career games — the 10th most in NHL history.
