New Cafe Grind @ The Rise Opens in Maylands After Five-Year Vacancy

The City of Bayswater has officially introduced a new cafe to The Rise in Maylands, a location that has remained unoccupied for nearly five years. Grind @ The Rise has signed a lease for the space, providing locals with an inviting venue to enjoy coffee and promoting activity in the surrounding area.

The cafe boasts a menu rich in healthy options, featuring smoothie bowls, wraps, baked goods, and juices crafted from locally sourced ingredients. This initiative not only enhances the local culinary landscape but also aims to create job opportunities for residents, with plans to offer barista training for young individuals seeking to enter the workforce.

During a council meeting in July, Grind @ The Rise was selected by councillors as the preferred operator, surpassing two other contenders: Grow & Grind and JBD Pty Ltd. The arrival of this cafe is particularly notable as it complements the presence of several not-for-profit organizations already established at The Rise, further enhancing the community’s offerings.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti expressed her enthusiasm for the new addition, emphasizing the importance of activating this well-frequented area of Maylands. She highlighted that the cafe’s connection to Ambrosia Catering, a reputable catering company known for catering events statewide, reflects the city’s ability to attract high-quality businesses.

The cafe features both indoor and outdoor seating options, making it an ideal spot for various community activities. Mayor Piffaretti noted that whether residents are finishing a workout at the health club, studying at the Maylands Library, or even enjoying recreational activities like pickleball, they now have a convenient place to relax with a coffee.

Accessibility is also a priority for Grind @ The Rise, which is designed to be wheelchair-accessible and pram-friendly, ensuring it caters to all community members and their dietary needs.

However, the cafe’s opening comes amid rising concerns from locals regarding antisocial behavior in the vicinity. In response, Deputy Mayor Elli Petersen-Pik announced on social media that the city is contemplating potential measures to address these issues, including the option of temporarily locking public toilets.

As Grind @ The Rise opens its doors, it promises to enhance community life, offering residents a vibrant new space for socializing and relaxation.
