Asim Munir wants war with India: Deepfake of Imran Khan’s sister’s interview viral

‘Radicalised Islamist’ Asim Munir yearns for a full-scale war with India, while Imran Khan tried to befriend India and the BJP, one of the three sisters of the jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister is heard saying in a viral interview with Sky News. However, it turned out to be a deepfake video. It was clarified by the interviewer and journalist Yalda Hakim.

“This is terrifying. A deepfake of my interview with Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, is circulating. It falsely claims we discussed the Pakistan-India war earlier this year. We did not. This clip is completely fake,” Hakim, who hosts ‘The World with Yalda Hakim’ on Sky News, tweeted.

In the viral clip, Aleema labelled the Pakistani army chief an “Islamic conservative” while terming her brother a “pure liberal”.

“Asim Munir is a radicalised Islamist, an Islamic conservative. This is the reason why he yearns for a war with India. His Islamic radicalisation and conservatism are forcing him to fight against those who don’t believe in Islam,” Aleema is heard saying when she is asked about the reason behind the India-Pakistan conflict in May.

Calling Imran an “asset”, she called on the West to intensify its efforts to free the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, who has been languishing in jail since 2023 after being convicted in a web of corruption cases.

“Imran Khan is a pure liberal. Whenever Imran comes to power, you will see he tries to be friends with India and even the BJP. Whenever there is this radical Islamist, Asim Munir, you will see there will be war with India and its allies. Imran is an asset, and the West needs to increase its efforts to free him,” Aleema said.

Munir’s remarks that Kashmir was the “jugular vein” of Pakistan and Muslims were distinct from Hindus were believed to have been the trigger for the Pahalgam attack in April, which left 26 dead. India retaliated by launching Operation Sindoor in May, flattening nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and targeting 11 military sites. The Pakistani army chief has only intensified his war rhetoric since then, recently warning India of a “decisive response” to even a minor provocation.

IMRAN KHAN’S ALL-OUT ATTACK ON ASIM MUNIR

Even Imran Khan, in a blistering statement on Tuesday, called Munir a “mentally unstable tyrant” and alleged that the Field Marshal should be held responsible if anything happened to him inside jail.

“Asim Munir is the most tyrannical dictator in history and is mentally unstable. All that is left for them is to now murder me,” Imran said in an emotionally charged message that was released by his party shortly after his sister, Uzma Khanum, was allowed to meet him.

Accusing the army chief of imprisoning him and his wife on false charges, Imran said both were being subjected to the “most severe mental torture”. “I have the same facilities that one has on death row. I was tortured by being confined in a cage and treated worse than animals,” he further said.

Calling Munir’s policies destructive for Pakistan, Imran lamented, “Due to him, the cancer of terrorism in the country is out of control today.” He added, “This person (Munir) has sacrificed the country to terrorism for his personal interests.”
