Rod Stewart admits to ‘changes’ in Penny Lancaster marriage

Rod Stewart admitted that he and wife Penny Lancaster have “changed” one another after tying the knot back in 2007. Maggie May hitmaker Rod, 80, had been married twice before – first to Alana Stewart from 1979 until 1984 and then to Rachel Hunter from 1990 until 2006. But he met the love of his life in Penny.
Speaking to The Mirror, Rod confessed that the pair have taught each other things and evolved because of the age-gap between them. Penny, 54, is 26 years younger than her husband – and Rod admitted that does have its “downsides”. He said: “I think, to be honest with you, I think the age difference, there are downsides to the age difference, but not many. I think there’s a maturity, I may have taught Pen, and there’s a certain honesty that she’s taught me.”
The pair “never argue” before going to bed or after drinking – they instead “wait until the morning”. He admitted the rows are “over real quick” as there is a “wonderful honesty” between the pair.
Penny, meanwhile, added: “I think that over the years, you’ve become a lot more understanding and compassionate to others around you, because obviously, you are the super legendary star that Rod Stewart is is on a pedestal all the time.
“But I’m quite diplomatic and carry a lot of empathy, and I think maybe some of that has rubbed off, because the kids will say that dad’s much easier to talk to now.
“Because I am open and honest it has encouraged Rod to do the same.”
It comes after Rod announced a surprising move away from music – admitting he’s now into beekeeping.
He and Penny invested in hives each housing 40,000 bees to produce their own honey, with Penny explaining: “With our mature fruit trees, other native plants and surrounding farmers’ land, our garden is the perfect home for bees. We have eight hives plus a shed for extracting and storing honey.”
