BBC Entertainment Commissioning is looking for a new Comedy Entertainment series for BBC iPlayer and BBC Two

BBC Entertainment Commissioning today launches the search for a brand new and original funny, fresh, and bold comedy entertainment format as a series of 10 x 30’ episodes that could be stripped across two weeks for BBC iPlayer and BBC Two.

The aspiration is to find a format-first idea that prioritises funny moments and spontaneity rather than anything which is heavily scripted or topical. The brand-new format should be a show that audiences can binge on iPlayer, can watch multiple episodes of in one sitting, or dip into at random. It should feel unmissable and shareable, with the potential to become an appointment-to-view hit with a a mix of recognisable and rising comedy voices or well-known faces with a comedic tone and genuine chemistry.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at the BBC says: “We’re not looking for the traditional shows that have occupied this space historically, but if there is something fresh, funny and pure fun that is rooted in universal themes and banter then we want to hear from you.”

The successful production company will be based in the UK and have a proven track record of delivering high-volume, fast turnaround shows or be working with a production company partner who does.

Shortlisted ideas will go into paid development with the intention to commissioning one idea. For the full brief including budget, delivery and submission details visit the BBC Commissioning website.

The deadline for initial ideas is 27 February 2026 with the paid development commencing in April 2026 with delivery and transmission expected in Winter 2026.

Next year another comedy entertainment opportunity for production companies will be confirmed. Further details of this will be announced in due course.
