Ryan McDonagh signs three-year, $12.3M extension with Lightning

Ryan McDonagh has signed a three-year extension with an average annual value of $4.1 million, the team announced Thursday.
McDonagh, 36, has had two stints with the Lightning, winning Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.
The move comes with McDonagh sidelined with an injury. His last game was Nov. 8. The Minnesota native has three goals and three assists in 15 games this season.
McDonagh has 83 goals and 343 assists for 426 points in 1,025 career games with the New York Rangers, Nashville Predators and Lightning.
Tampa re-acquired the two-time all-star in a trade with the Predators in the 2024 off-season. He led the NHL for plus/minus last season with a plus-43.
Among all active NHL defencemen, he ranks first for career plus/minus (plus-290), third for blocked shots (2,037), ninth for takeaways (521) and 13th for games played.
The Montreal Canadiens selected McDonagh 12th overall in the 2007 NHL Draft and traded him to the Rangers two years later.
