December’s supermoon, also known as the cold moon, will soon light up the night sky in Iowa and around the globe as the last supermoon of the year.

When is the last full moon in 2025?
On Thursday, Dec. 4, the supermoon will take over the sky, according to NASA. The full moon will be at its peak on Thursday at 5:14 p.m. CT.
The moon will still look bright and full the night for several days after it peaks, according to USA TODAY.
What is the forecast for the cold moon supermoon in Des Moines?
Skywatchers shouldn’t have a hard time spotting the cold moon in Iowa due to mostly clear skies, but frigid temperatures might keep some from venturing outside.
In Des Moines, sky cover is forecast at 15% at 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The low on Thursday night is 8 degrees with wind chill values as low as 5 degrees below zero.
When is the next supermoon?
The next supermoon will take place on Jan. 3, 2026, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
