Coronation Street star Alan Halsall seals future on soap after 27 years

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has recently confirmed whether he would continue Tyrone Dobbs’ arc on the cobbles after 27 years on the ITV soap.

Halsall has just signed to stay on Corrie for another year, marking his 28th year as Tyrone with a new, huge storyline.

The Sun reported the news, adding that “big things” are on the horizon for Corrie and Tyrone.

Halsall’s character has been at the centre of a dramatic storyline over the past months as he was involved in a terrifying hit-and-run incident in September.

Initially, it appeared that Dylan Wilson and Brody Michaelis were responsible for the situation, though Tyrone’s pal and colleague Carl Webster was actually the one behind the accident.

After being seen torching the vehicle in the aftermath of the hit-and-run, Carl was revealed to be involved in a stolen car scheme, with Dylan and Brody working for him.

Also staying on is actor Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie Webster on the soap.

Debbie was recently diagnosed with dementia earlier this year. In a new development, Corrie writers have confirmed Debbie isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

This week, writer Jonathan Harvey has assured viewers in an Instagram post that Debbie will be staying on the cobbles for the “next few years”.

This comes after Corrie boss Kate Brooks told Digital Spy that Debbie would remain on the soap, saying that the character has “ages and ages” to go and her storyline is “in its infancy”.

“We’re not galloping our way through the story at all,” Brooks said at a press event.

“We love Debbie. She is brilliant, so funny, so full of life and joy. There are so many stories that are happening around Debbie that are not dependent on her dementia. There are real family dramas that Debbie’s at the heart of.”

The producer added: “This story is really in its infancy. Yes, there are some times when she will forget things, but she’s living with it. She’s not just a person who has dementia – she’s not defined by it at all. Her stories are not defined by it either, for a really long time. So we are just enjoying Debbie being Debbie.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
