Jalen Carter injury update: Eagles DT to miss ‘Monday Night Football’

Week 14 fantasy starts include Jordan Love, Jordan Mason, Darren Waller

USA TODAY Sports’ Joe Rivera and Jacob Camenker explain why starting these guys could be the smart fantasy move this week.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to be without one of their best defensive players as they prepare for the stretch run of the 2025 NFL season.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter is expected to miss the Eagles’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Los Angeles Chargers after undergoing a procedure on both of his shoulders Dec. 1, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter did not provide details about the nature of Carter’s procedure. He simply said the 24-year-old defensive tackle was “undergoing treatment on both shoulders” and that Carter would be considered “week-to-week” as he recovers from the surgeries.

The Eagles are not considering placing Carter on IR at this time, per Schefter.

It isn’t clear how Carter was hurt. He played 61 snaps in the Eagles’ “Black Friday” loss to the Chicago Bears, but his 70.1% snap share was his second-lowest in game this season – excluding Philadelphia’s season opener, from which Carter was ejected without playing a snap.

Carter has generated 32 tackles and two sacks during the 2025 NFL season. His 27 pressures rank second on the team behind only Jalyx Hunt’s 45, per the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, but the third-year pro only grades out as Pro Football Focus’ 55th-best interior defender among 129 qualifiers.

Carter has played 581 defensive snaps this season, most among Eagles defensive linemen this year. In his stead, Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis will operate as the team’s top defensive tackles while Byron Young and rookie fourth-round pick Ty Robinson take on bigger roles in Philadelphia’s defensive line rotation.

The Eagles also have veterans Gabe Hall and Ta’Quon Graham on their practice squad and could call up either to provide extra depth with Carter out of action.
