Doctors concerned Australians are dumping gold-tier health policies

Doctors say the number of Australians dropping out of gold-tier health insurance policies is on the rise as the cost of premiums soars, doubling over the past 16 years and outstripping a 20 per cent rise in health inflation.
The Australian Medical Association on Friday will call for an overhaul of private health insurance, including demands for an independent regulator to oversee the way annual premium increases are calculated. It warns Australians will drop out of the system because of escalating costs.
