Manchester United vs West Ham preview
Manchester United are not a team to rely your hard-earned on with Christmas just around the corner but the Red Devils have certainly progressed from last season and can kickstart a hectic December schedule with a high-scoring win over West Ham at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s side had reeled off four straight home league wins before last Monday’s no-show at home to Everton, who edged to a 1-0 victory despite being reduced to ten men after 13 minutes as Idrissa Gueye came to blows with teammate Michael Keane.
However, United went on to have 25 shots and bumped into Toffees shot-stopper Jordan Pickford in inspired form, and that has been their only league defeat in seven.
It was the Red Devils’ response against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday that shows this is a team turning the corner as they trailed 1-0 at half-time before goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount inflicted a first home league defeat in 12 on the Eagles.
There is still plenty of work to do and Amorim will be calling for reinforcements in January, but league wins over Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton and Palace this season illustrate the improvement that they have made.
It would, therefore, be deemed a big disappointment were they to falter at home to a West Ham side who remain in grave relegation danger despite having had a lift from Nuno’s arrival.
The Hammers went into Sunday’s home fixture with an under-fire Liverpool having taken seven points from three games but they failed to register a shot on target in a 2-0 loss to the Reds and matters were made worse with the influential but frustrating Lucas Paqueta seeing red late on.
Three goals in wins over Burnley and Newcastle prior to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth show that West Ham can pose an attacking threat, with Callum Wilson having been rejuvenated, and one clean sheet in 14 for United will provide plenty of optimism.
But, while United’s 3-4-2-1 system can leave them vulnerable defensively, it also allows them freedom going forward and they should create a flurry of chances against a Hammers outfit who have conceded at least twice in six of their last seven league outings.
Casemiro could collect a card
With Paqueta suspended, bettors have to get more adventurous in the card markets and Casemiro should appear the first port of call.
The Brazilian battler has been a key performer for the Red Devils this season but he has picked up six yellow cards in 12 league appearances and he was fortunate not to go into the book at Crystal Palace on Sunday having committed four fouls.
Bowen hoping to serve United more punishment
Jarrod Bowen is without a Premier League goal since September but that drought won’t continue forever and he will be hoping that a showdown with Manchester United can yield a change in fortunes.
The England international has scored in three of his last four league meetings with United and the Red Devils have been behind at some point in each of their last four league matches.

Casemiro to commit two or more fouls
United’s Brazilian midfielder committed four fouls in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, making it nine fouls in his last four appearances.
Bryan Mbuemo to have three or more shots
The Cameroon star has looked threatening since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer and has had 27 shots in 13 league appearances, racking up three or more efforts in three of his last five starts.
