West Ham United star Alphonse Areola may be set for award as official announcement made

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has had a better season than many thought he would in the summer.
He became Graham Potter’s number one ahead of his final game in charge, but Nuno Espirito Santo has stuck with the Frenchman and it is a decision that has paid off.
This season, he has played nine games in the Premier League and, unless another keeper is signed, is expected to be the first choice until the end of the campaign.

Alphonse Areola nominated for Premier League Save of the Month
Areola’s save in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium has won over the decision-makers at the Premier League HQ.
They have nominated it for the Save of the Month award for November and West Ham United shared the clip on their social media account.
Areola most certainly deserves all the plaudits coming his way.
There is an argument to be made for him winning this award, as not only was it a top-drawer save, but it was crucial in the context of the match, too.

Even against Liverpool, despite the defeat, the 32-year-old showcased his quality, much to Nuno’s delight and there is no doubt that he will retain his place in the starting eleven.
In the summer, it seemed like Mads Hermansen was Potter’s guy, and the club backed him with a pretty significant outlay.
That move has obviously not worked out too well for the Dane, but it has galvanised Areola to improve his performances and win his spot back in the team.

Should West Ham upgrade on Areola?
While Areola has been decent for the Hammers, they may consider signing an upgrade in the coming seasons.
It also depends on who the manager is and what attributes he wants in a goalkeeper.
While Areola is a tremendous shot stopper, there have been concerns over his distribution and also his ability to be authoritative during set plays.
It’s highly unlikely that Nuno demands a first-choice keeper in January, but West Ham United may look to sign someone in the summer, provided Hermansen leaves and they get good value for him.
