The Boston Celtics are in action on Thursday, Dec. 4 playing the first half of a back-to-back on the road at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. where they are matching up with the Washington Wizards.

The Celtics will be without Jaylen Brown for the first time this season as the 2024 Finals MVP is dealing with an illness. Boston has won two straight and four of its last five to get to 12-9. Against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, Brown was the game’s leading scorer with 42, which was a season-high, and the third time this season the Celtics’ leading scorer hit at least 40. The game prior, a 117-115 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Payton Pritchard went off for 42 points, and he will be needed to provided that type of scoring punch on Thursday. Derrick White had 22 against the Knicks, along with a team-high five assists. And Anfernee Simons and Josh Minott both had double figures in scoring off the bench. Jordan Walsh has provided big minutes in the starting lineup and will be needed even more on Thursday.
The Wizards are 3-17 and two of those wins have come in their last four games. They also last played on Tuesday, when they lost on the road to the Philadelphia 76ers, 121-102. That was their second in a back-to-back, which started with a home victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, 129-126. CJ McCollum led the team with 28 points while Marvin Bagley III added 22 and eight rebounds and Khris Middleton chipped in 15 points and a team-high six assists. Cam Whitmore, Tristan Vukcevic and Justin Champagnie combined for 43 and 15 rebounds off the bench.
