Kwabre East: GNFS trains children in fire safety ahead of Christmas

The Ghana National Fire Service Command in the Kwabre East Municipality has called for deliberate efforts to train children in basic fire safety, particularly on how to respond during an outbreak, as the Christmas festivities approach.

According to the Command, children account for a significant number of burn victims, with most incidents occurring at home.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, November 28, during a Career Day programme at the Modern School of Technology in Bosore, Ashanti Region, Municipal Fire Commander DO II Akua Brago emphasised the importance of actively involving children in fire safety education.

“…We want to speak to the children because the little that they learn, they teach their parents when they go home. The children can point out mistakes their parents might make,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the Modern School of Technology, David Atuahene, reiterated his commitment to ensuring pupils receive adequate fire safety education.

“Fire is becoming a problem in this country, and therefore, children must be taught how to prevent and respond to fires. We are losing a lot to fire, and educating children is key,” he said.
