Fans rushed to support one I’m a Celebrity star as they emotionally opened up about dark times

A former star of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has been supported by fans after emotionally opening up about having suicidal thoughts in the past.

Roman Kemp finished in third place on I’m A Celebrity in 2019 while his pop star legend dad Martin has been in the current series and was the latest to be evicted from the Australian jungle on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, The One Show co-host Roman can be seen in the BBC travel series Celebrity Race Across the World with his older sister Harleymoon as they aim to beat three other pairs to destinations in Central America.

During the latest episode on Thursday, 32-year-old Roman got emotional as he was deep in the jungle and admitted the moment might never have happened.

“This feels like a proper step into the jungle,” he said of his surroundings. “It’s a really nice feeling you know when you’re not thinking about anything and you’ve just got a job to do. It’s kind of a nice break from your own brain I guess.

“You know there have been moments in my life where I didn’t even want to be here any more and things like this make me think if I had made different decisions I wouldn’t have seen this and I never would have experienced this and I never, you know… yeah, it shows that there’s stuff worth living for.”

In another video clip he tearfully confessed: “I remember one moment in particular where it was really bad. I just remember my mum passing the phone to Harley and Harley trying to just talk to me just to, I guess, distract me and keep me on the phone so that my mum could get in the car and drive to me. I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to Harley about that call. I don’t think we’ve been ready to have that conversation, it’s really hard.

“What I do know is that conversation between my mum and Harley might have saved my life on that day.”

After seeing Roman’s admission, Celebrity Race Across the World viewers took to social media platform X to support him.

One said: ”Watching #RaceAcrossTheWorld. In tears. #Roman & #HarleyMoon are the most lovely, gorgeous people. I just want to hug them both. This trip will be cathartic & healing for them.”

A second commented: “Wanna applaud #RomanKemp so much for being so open & honest about his #mentalhealth issues. Such a wonderful role model for young men everywhere”

A fourth posted: “That moment between Roman and his sister. Sometimes we don’t realise how important one conversation or moment can be”
