Avolta joins global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network to bolster accessible service commitment

INTERNATIONAL. Avolta has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network, expanding the reach of a programme designed to support travellers with non-visible disabilities across its worldwide operations.
The retailer announced this yesterday (3 December), coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The initiative introduces Sunflower training to Avolta teams, helping staff recognise the widely used symbol – presented on lanyards, wristbands or pins – and respond with additional patience, time and assistance when needed.
The company noted on LinkedIn: “At Avolta, we believe every traveller deserves to feel understood, supported and at ease.
“And today, on 3 December – International Day of Persons with Disabilities – we’re reminded of the importance of creating travel experiences that work for everyone.”
The retailer has previously collaborated with airports including London Heathrow, Helsinki-Vantaa, Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International and Santos Dumont to implement the Sunflower programme locally in the UK, Finland and Brazil.
Staff there are trained to look out for the Sunflower symbol as an indication that a traveller may require additional understanding.
Avolta noted: “Through dedicated Sunflower training, our team members learn to identify the Sunflower symbol and offer thoughtful support, whether that means taking extra time, offering patience, or creating a calmer and more comfortable experience.”
By joining the network at a global level, the company said it aims to ensure a more consistent and traveller-centred approach across its international portfolio.
“Now, by joining the network globally, we’re taking another step in creating a traveller-centric experience; one that celebrates accessibility, empathy and respect in every interaction.”
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is used across airports, transport hubs, retailers and public venues worldwide as a discreet signal that a person may have a non-visible disability and could benefit from additional support. ✈
