ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — The Board of Education (BOE) of Anne Arundel County has adopted next year’s school calendar with classes beginning for students on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026 and concluding on Friday, June 11, 2027.
BOE made several changes to the calendar recommended by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Calendar Committee last month, according to the school district.

Because the first day of classes is being shifted from the committee’s recommended start date of Aug. 19, the adopted calendar has schools open for students from Dec. 21-23, 2026.
BOE also switched the partial-day schedules on the four Unity Days in the calendar from two-hour late arrivals to two-hour early dismissals for students, according to AACPS. These four days are the only partial days in the calendar.
Other key parts of the calendar include:
- A five-day Thanksgiving break for students.
- A seven-day Easter/Spring break for students beginning on Friday, March 26, 2027, and continuing through the week after Easter. That is a shift from the break occurring before Easter as it has in recent years.
- Four non-student days following the last day of each marking period to allow for teachers to complete grades and other staff to engage in professional development.
- Closings on Yom Kippur, Election Day, and Eid al-Fitr.
- A non-student day in November for elementary and middle school students only. High schools will operate on normal schedules on this day.
- Closings of high schools on the day of their graduations.
- Three built-in inclement weather days, which would be deducted from the end of the school year if not used.
Using flexibility legislation passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Wes Moore earlier this year, the school calendar has 177 instructional days, but sufficient seat hours at all levels to comply with Maryland law.

This spring, BOE will consider adoption of the 2027-2028 school calendar to allow families to better plan schedules around the calendar. The 2028-2029 calendar will be presented to BOE next fall, according to AACPS.
