The Spanish city known as the foodie capital with one of Europe’s best beaches is getting new British Airways flights

BRITISH AIRWAYS is launching new flights to a Spanish destination in time for next summer.

BA Cityflyer, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of British Airways, has announced that it will be launching flights to San Sebastian in Spain, next summer.

The new route will operate between Glasgow and San Sebastian, operating twice a week.

Fares will cost from £113 per person, per way and flights take under two hours.

San Sebastian is known for its stunning beaches, including the crescent-shaped La Concha Beach, which boasts golden sands and calm waters.

The beach is also often considered one of the best in Europe.

At low tide, visitors can even head across to Santa Clara Island.

The city is also home to Ondarreta Beach, which has a playground and Zurriola Beach which tends to have bigger waves and is therefore popular with surfers.

When in the city itself, make sure to head to the Old Town and try ‘pintxos’.

These small tapas-like dishes are essentially bite-sized meals and cost just a couple of euros a time.

San Sebastian is home to a popular spot as well – La Vina – which serves Basque burnt cheesecake.

In fact, the city is often dubbed ‘the gastronomic capital of Spain’ due to the amount of top seafood spots and Michelin-starred restaurants it has.

BA Cityflyer already flies direct to San Sebastian from London City Airport and Edinburgh Airport.

In summer 2026, the London City to San Sebastian route will operate three times a week and from Edinburgh, it will operate two times a week.

British Airways Holidays also has packages to San Sebastian, including a seven night break from £1,069 per person.

Ian Romanis, managing director of BA Cityflyer, said: “San Sebastián from Glasgow offers an attractive break within easy reach for our Scottish customers.”

The airline is also launching two other routes to Toulon Saint-Tropez in France and Olbia in Sardinia, Italy.

The London City Airport to Toulon Saint-Tropez, France, route will operate twice a week from May 23 to September 1, 2026.

Fares will cost from £127 per person, per way.

The London Stansted to Olbia, Sardinia route will then operate twice a week between May 23 and September 27, 2026.

Mr Romanis added: “We’re excited to grow our network next year with three fantastic new routes.

“Adding Toulon Saint-Tropez from London City Airport gives customers more choice and convenience when travelling to the French Riviera, further strengthening our leisure offering from the heart of London.

“Olbia from Stansted Airport is perfect for a getaway to Sardinia’s crystal-clear waters and stunning Mediterranean landscapes, and complements existing British Airways services from London City and Heathrow Airports.

“These routes will provide even greater options and flexibility for those planning summer holidays in 2026 – and we are confident that all three destinations will be popular with our customers.”

All of the flights include a Club Europe (business class) cabin as well.
