Alaska will be featured in an edition of the PBS series “A Reading Road Trip” this week.

The series celebrating America’s 250th anniversary is a collaboration between PBS Books and the Library of Congress and its Center for the Book.

The show will air at 4 p.m. AKST Wednesday on PBS Books Facebook Live, YouTube and on the PBS app or pbs.org.

The episode will cover a number of aspects of the state’s literary history, including Alaska Native storytelling and iconic authors who wrote about the state like Jack London, Margaret Murie and Frederica de Laguna.

Several contemporary Alaska authors are also featured, including Velma Wallis, Michaela Goade, Dana Stabenow, Seth Kantner and Nancy Lord.

Literary landmarks are covered as well, along with libraries statewide and bookstores such as Title Wave Books in Anchorage.

Program producers say the series is intended to spark dialogue in local communities about their important literary heritage.

The Library of Congress’ Center for the Book was founded in 1977 to promote literacy and reading programs. The Alaska Center for the Book performs a similar function within the state, with programs that promote public interest in reading.
