Strava says the most popular running shoe is now made by Asics – dethroning a long-time Nike favourite

Strava has revealed the most-worn running shoe of 2025, and for the first time in years, it’s not the Nike Pegasus taking the top spot.
Instead, a different daily trainer has surged ahead. The Asics Novablast is officially the most popular running shoe of 2025, according to Strava’s Year in Sport report. A neutral daily trainer, now on its fifth iteration, the Novablast offers great bouncy, versatility and durability for a mix of different runs.

Last year’s winner, the Nike Pegasus, has dropped to second place, with the Hoka Clifton coming in third — universally anyway. It seems UK athletes have a different brand loyalty to their global counterparts, because the Clifton was the second most popular choice in the UK.
Now on its 10th iteration, the latest Clifton impressed our wear testers this year, thanks to its more spacious midfoot and forefoot which made it a more accommodating shoe overall, capable of carrying you for longer distances without discomfort.
Strava’s report aslo mirrors a growing trend we’re seeing in the rise of max-cushioned running shoes used for daily training, with the most recent iteration of the Novablast packing in 40.5mm of foam in the midsole.
When it comes to how people are recording their workouts, Apple has also nabbed the top spot for the second year running, with Garmin clocking in as the second most common device. Two years ago, the brand was on top.
Meanwhile, Coros has been flagged as the fastest-growing watch brand this year, perhaps reflecting the demand for lighter and more affordable wearables. Oura and Whoop received honourable mentions when it came to non-watch wearables.
