Martine McCutcheon donned a cosy jumper and maroon jacket as she joined a special welcoming committee at London’s Stansted Airport. The Love Actually actress was there to distribute warm festive drinks while helping friends and family reunite. In the true spirit of Christmas she was also joined by a gospel choir who performed a range of uplifting carols in the arrivals hall.

The heartwarming initiative was launched by Costa Coffee to spread Christmas cheer and celebrate moments of connection during the festive season. A survey conducted by the brand involving 5,000 adults revealed that nearly half (47%) said spending time with loved ones boosts their spirits.

Nine out of ten people agree that the holidays are the perfect time to reconnect with loved ones, with the average person traveling 164 miles to see them.

Reflecting on the occasion, Martine McCutcheon said: “I’ve loved spreading a little festive cheer today. Watching people light up the moment they see someone they’ve missed is truly magical.

“There’s a real sense of anticipation and gratitude in those first reunions that feels so unique to this time of year. It’s been a joy to witness those memories being made right in front of us.”

The study showed that winter walks (39%), catch-ups in coffee shops (27%), and watching festive films together (40%) were the preferred ways people liked to spend time together.

During the Christmas period, settling down to watch classic films like Home Alone, Elf, and Love Actually becomes part of yearly traditions.

Generally speaking, more than six in 10 of those polled via OnePoll.com agreed that Christmas is more about connection than celebration.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson added: “The joy of the season is in those first moments of reunion, when the people we’ve missed most finally come together.

“Whether it’s a shared smile at arrivals or a quiet coffee together, these connections create lasting memories.

“Being there to support these moments, and the holiday rituals that come with them, however big or small, is what makes this time of year so special.”
