Karate Combat champion Sam Alvey and Cuban finisher Robelis Despaigne locked eyes during their official staredown following the Karate Combat 58 weigh in held in Miami. The meeting was brief, but the mood was unmistakably intense as both prepared for their championship fight scheduled for tomorrow night.
Alvey arrives with confidence after a surprising KO victory over Tyrone Spong. That result continued his strong run inside the Karate Combat pit, where he now stands at 4-0-1. Many observers did not expect this late career surge, yet the veteran continues to build momentum.
Despaigne’s rise has been even more dramatic. He flattened his first 3 Karate Combat opponents in a combined 30 seconds. He earned his title shot by sweeping a 1-night heavyweight tournament, where he stopped Saulo Cavalari, Tim Johnson, and Zac Pauga.
