A beloved Adult Swim animated series is about to be taken down from Netflix. Rick and Morty, from creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, will be removed from the streamer, and it’s sooner than fans might think.
Rick and Morty premiered back in 2013 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and boasts a 90% Rotten Tomatoes critic score across its eight seasons. According to ComicBook, the iconic animated series following the lives of a mad scientist and his grandson is set to be pulled from Netflix in several countries around the world.
The series starring Chris Parnell, Sarah Chalke, and Spencer Grammer will leave Netflix on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 in some of the largest worldwide markets. As of Dec. 30, Rick and Morty will be pulled from Netflix in Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey. A day later, on Dec. 31, Rick and Morty will leave Netflix in the United Kingdom.
It’s not all bad news for Rick and Morty fans, however. The show will still be available to stream on Netflix in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Columbia, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, and Switzerland. Fans based in the United States can also breathe easy since Rick and Morty streams in the U.S. as part of HBO Max’s and Hulu’s library of content.

Cartoon Network has also confirmed that the series will have at least 12 total seasons, so it seemingly has a lot of streaming life left in it. Series co-creator Dan Harmon gave an update on the status of the future of Rick and Morty at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. At that time, he said that voice work was done recording for Season 9 and writing is already underway on Season 10.
As for what fans of the series can expect down the road, Harmon said the team, being essentially ahead of schedule, is “definitely very new, very alien.” He added, “I sometimes wake up in a cold sweat going, ‘How do I destroy everything? How do I slow it down?’ The answer is, I can’t.”
Harmon stressed that he’s already “so excited” about Season 10 of Rick and Morty. “There’s episodes of Season 10 that I’m already so excited about, and that’s a frustrating thing of being on schedule in animation. ‘Can we fast-forward time so people can get a look at this bad boy?'” he said.
“I don’t know if that’s sad for the listeners to hear. They’re like, ‘Why are you three years ahead?’ That means that you’re not going to get that amazing [Jeffrey] Epstein episode. We’re not going to have hot-topic stuff. We stay timeless,” Harmon added.
Rick and Morty quickly gained a huge following after its 2013 Adult Swim premiere. The show focuses on the adventures of Rick Sanchez, a super-genius scientist and inventor who is well-known across the multiverse. Rick is often accompanied by his grandson Morty Smith, who assists him in his various escapades.
Rick and Morty streams on HBO Max/Hulu in the United States. It streams internationally on Netflix, until it is pulled from select countries at the end of December.
