Greg James recounts awkward encounter with Sandra Bullock who refused to shake his hand

BBC presenter Greg James recently shared an awkward encounter he had with Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock during a junket interview aimed at promoting one of her projects. Despite being one of the most beloved figures in the film industry, Bullock’s refusal to shake Greg’s hand left a lasting impression on the radio star.
Greg, who has been a staple at BBC Radio 1 since 2007 and transitioned to the breakfast show in 2018, recounted the incident during an appearance on JaackMaate’s Happy Hour podcast. The 39-year-old presenter, known for his engaging interviews with A-listers like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, described the intensity of junket interviews as “really stressful.”
He vividly remembered the day he met Bullock, stating, “I went to shake her hand, and she said, ‘I’m not shaking hands today, my kid’s not very well.’” The actress expressed concern over potential germs being transmitted from her ill child to Greg through a handshake.
Greg humorously reflected on the situation, suggesting that Bullock’s decision could either stem from a genuine desire to prevent the spread of illness or possibly from a sense of frustration over her child’s health. “She could either be being really nice and trying to protect you from the kid’s illness… or she could be really bitter,” he mused, adding, “someone’s made my kid ill, so I’m not shaking strangers’ hands again.”
