Chelsea have been handed a big boost ahead of Saturday afternoon’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth, with the Cherries missing key midfielder Tyler Adams through suspension.

Adams, who has been a crucial player under Andoni Iraola this season, picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in the defeat to Everton earlier in the week and will serve a one-match suspension against the Blues at the Vitality Stadium. The USA international has been perhaps the Cherries’ star midfielder this term, meaning his absence is a boost for Chelsea, who are too missing Moises Caicedo in the middle of the pitch through suspension.

Lewis Cook is also suspended for Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, with Ben Doak and Ryan Christie also missing. Veljko Milosavljevic will be assessed on Saturday morning to see if he can take any part as he recovers from injury.

There are no fresh injury concerns for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea, though the Blues head coach was unable to give any update on when Romeo Lavia will return from the quad problem he suffered almost a month ago. Maresca is hoping his side are able to bounce back from losing to Leeds United on Wednesday evening, with the Italian sticking up for his players after being questioned on whether the lack of experience in the squad was a factor in their performance.

“Listen, we always talk about experience when we drop points,” Maresca said. “When we beat Barcelona, we drew against Arsenal, no one was mentioning about experienced players.

“So, again, I understand that when we don’t win, we are always looking for the reason why, but I think the reason why we didn’t win against Leeds is not because of the experience, it’s because we were not good enough. But we have experienced players.

“Unfortunately, they were not inside the pitch. One because he was suspended, the other one because of injury. So, it’s because in that moment, the ones that have more experience, they were out.

“Who is the oldest one for us in the pitch? Who was? Tosin. Did he play good? So, it’s not about experience. It’s about that 11 players, they were not good enough. I know that we are always looking for experience, but it was a bad game for all of us.”
