Rohit Sharma becomes fastest Indian batter to score 20000 runs, joins Sachin & Kohli on elite list

Rohit Sharma became the fourth Indian player to amass 20,000 runs in international cricket (across formats) and the fastest to do so

Rohit Sharma created history on Saturday as he became the fastest Indian batter to breach the 20,000-run mark in international cricket. The former Indian captain, who made his T20I and ODI debut in 2007 followed by his Test debut in 2013, has taken just 538 innings to breach the 20,000-run mark. Sharma achieved the milestone in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Rohit becomes fastest Indian to reach 20000 runs

Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of most runs scored by Indian batters (across formats), with 34357 runs from 782 innings. Second on the list is former Indian captain Virat Kohli with 27910 runs from 622 innings. He is followed by former India cricket team head coach -‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid who amassed 24,064 runs from 599 innings. Rohit is now the 4th Indian batter to have over 20,000 runs in international cricket to his name.

Rohit Sharma clocked his 61st ODI half-century in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI on Saturday. The Hitman took 54 deliveries to breach the fifty-run mark and struck 6 fours and one six en route his half-century. While Sharma did manage to score 57 runs in the 1st ODI, he was sent packing for just 14 runs in the 2nd ODI in Ranchi. Rohit, along with Jaiswal, provided the perfect start for India in the 271 run-chase in Vizag.

Rohit is currently active only in the ODI format, having retired from T20Is in 2024 and Tests in May 2025. He will next be seen in action during the ODI series against New Zealand which begins from January 11.
