‘Be ourselves’ – Birmingham boss makes clear what sort of opponent Saints will face

BIRMINGHAM City boss Chris Davies insisted he will not change his approach for Saturday’s match against Saints, despite rotten away form.
The Midlands side have won four of their last six matches, scoring four goals in three of them, but all of those victories have come on home soil.

Their problems have come on the road, where they have accumulated eight points from nine games and fallen to defeat on five occasions.
Davies labels his newly-promoted outfit “proactive,” and he is determined not to change their approach to away fixtures ahead of visiting St Mary’s.
“What it all boils down to is what you think is going to bring success for the team this season and the big picture,” he said in his press conference.

“To sit back in a low block and be passive, and try to counter-attack teams, and have that as a template would not get us more points away from home.
“I have no doubt about that because it goes against everything that we have been working on, training on, speaking about.
“All the success we have had has been based on having a very proactive mindset to the game. It would be detrimental to us to change and move too far away from that.”
He added: “Having said that, the idea of football is to win football matches, so you have to understand the challenges that you face, you need to be compact.

“You need to pick your moments when you can press aggressively and know there will be more times away from home where you do have to be a little bit more compact because you can’t get pressure on the ball every single time.
“Getting all that right is the challenge. The path forward for us is to be ourselves. That is what’s going to bring us success and has brought us success. Where we are in the league is a reflection of that.
“I’m very aware that our results at home have been a lot better than our results away from home, but what I’m bothered about is where we are in the league and ultimately where we end up.”
