Rodriguez moved off Jays’ 40-man after going unclaimed on waivers

The Toronto Blue Jays are outrighting right-hander Yariel Rodriguez off their 40-man roster, it was announced Saturday afternoon.
The move means Rodriguez went through waivers unclaimed and the Jays remain responsible for the three years and $17 million remaining on his contract.
The 28-year-old was solid for Toronto during the regular season, turning in a 3.08 ERA in 66 games. He had 66 strikeouts and saved two games over the course of 73.0 innings pitched in 2025.
Rodriguez joined the Blue Jays as a free agent in February of last year and pitched two seasons in Toronto with a 3.83 ERA in 87 combined appearances.
He also pitched in four postseason games for the Jays during their run to the World Series. After not allowing a run in his first two appearances against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, Rodriguez allowed runners to score in back-to-back games during the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners and was eventually left off the World Series roster.
The Camaguey, Cuba native made his Major League debut on April 13, 2024 in a game against the Colorado Rockies.
