Conference championship weekend: Live updates, scores, Top 25 CFP rankings, highlights

The beginning of conference championship weekend started last night featuring four title games, which included three ranked teams with two having to face each other.

Let’s check out the results:

No. 25 James Madison runs all over Troy in Sun Belt title game

No. 25 James Madison secured its first conference championship since 2021 in a victory over Troy, 31-14, after a strong fourth quarter performance.

The Dukes and Trojans were neck-and-neck heading into the final 15 minutes of the contest, with JMU leading 17-14. However, that would be the closest Troy would get to taking the lead. With nearly four minutes left, the Dukes running back Alonza Barnett III scored a 26-yard run to give them a two possession lead. And on the ensuing possession, the defense forced a strip sack fumble and returned for another touchdown.

The back-to-back blows closed the Trojans’ comeback hopes. They were shutout in the second half and loss the run game battle 318 yards to 28.

The win marks James Madison’s first 12 win season since 2021.

No. 20 Tulane closes in on CFP spot with American championship win

No. 20 Tulane is on the cusp of a College Football Playoff berth after beating No. 24 North Texas 34-21 in the American Championship. The win marked the Green Wave’s second conference championship win in four years.

Although the Mean Green scored first, it was all Tulane from there largely because of North Texas’ five turnovers. The Mean Green fumbled twice in the second quarter — once on offense and another on a punt return — allowing the Green Wave to score twice. They led 24-7 at halftime.

North Texas continued to fight in the second half, but the closest they could get to erasing Tulane’s lead was 10 points. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw two interceptions in the third, including a pick-six, and one more in the fourth.
