Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua makes case for team’s inclusion in College Football Playoff

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Notre Dame will not play this weekend, instead waiting to see if other teams’ results will secure the Irish a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Multiple scenarios exist heading into this weekend’s conference championship games, with the Big 12 Championship Game between BYU and Texas Tech carrying the most significance for Notre Dame’s playoff hopes.
BYU sits just behind Notre Dame in the current rankings. If the Cougars upset Texas Tech, they could move ahead of the Irish in the standings. If BYU loses, Notre Dame is likely in, but the final decision could still come down to the selection committee.
Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua made his case for the Irish on “The Pat McAfee Show” today.
“Hats off to Ohio State and Indiana to have undefeated seasons like they’ve had this year in 2025 is such an accomplishment. But I think with the exception of those two teams who are undefeated, we’re the hottest team in the country,” Bevacqua said. “I don’t think anybody is playing better than Notre Dame. You think about this 10-game streak of dominance we’ve had, some of the best football I have ever seen here, and I’ve been a huge Notre Dame fan literally since the day I was born.”
Notre Dame will learn its College Football Playoff fate on Sunday at noon.
