Smriti Mandhana says wedding with Palash Muchchal is off: Like to end it here

India cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal’s wedding has officially been called off. Mandhana addressed the matter on Instagram, confirming that the families decided to cancel the wedding after weeks of speculation.
On December 7, Mandhana shared a short statement requesting privacy and emphasising that she wished to close the matter with her post.
“Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off,” Mandhana said.
“I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace,” she added.
Mandhana further reflected on her focus and priorities. “I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me, that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” she concluded.
Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal Wedding
Mandhana and Muchhal’s wedding had been expected to be a high-profile event, especially following India’s Women’s World Cup victory. Smriti had exchanged rings with Palash after the composer surprised her with a proposal at the DY Patil Stadium, the venue for the Women’s World Cup final.
Originally scheduled for 23 November 2025 in Sangli — was indefinitely postponed after Smriti’s father suffered a sudden medical emergency and had to be hospitalised on the morning of the ceremony. Soon after, Palash also required hospital care, reportedly due to severe stress. Facing a double crisis, both families agreed to call off the ceremony for the time being.
Speculation and rumors quickly circulated, with Muchhal being accused of cheating. His family denied the allegations and condemned the spread of false information about the music composer.
In the days that followed, Mandhana and the other India stars present at the wedding removed photos from social media and remained silent. During the crisis Smriti Mandhana’s teammate Jemimah Rodrigues stayed back in India, withdrawing from the Women’s Big Bash League to support the left-handed batter.
On December 7, Mandhana spoke out publicly for the first time since the wedding functions were suspended.
Following Mandhana’s post, Muchhal also released a statement, saying he was moving on from his relationship with Mandhana. Amid backlash and unfounded rumors, the music producer warned that he would take legal action against anyone spreading “false and defamatory content” about him.
“I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It has been very difficult for me to see people react so easily to baseless rumours about something that has been most sacred to me. This is the most difficult phase of my life, and I will deal with it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs,” Muchhal said.
“I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never identified. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand. While we focus on these things, many people in the world are facing drastic consequences. My team will be taking strict legal action against those spreading false and defamatory content. Thank you to everyone who has stood by me with kindness during this difficult time,” he concluded.
Mandhana Unfollows Palash on Instagram
Smriti Mandhana has also unfollowed Palash Muchhal on Instagram, while Palash continues to follow her as of the time of writing. Mandhana had recently ended her social media hiatus on December 5, sharing an advertisement video on her Instagram timeline. Observant fans noticed that she was not wearing her engagement ring, fuelling speculation that news of the breakup would be announced soon.
The India cricketer is expected to go back to her routine during a turbulent time in her life. In her statement, she hinted that she would be fully focusing on cricket, with playing for India being the highest priority in her life.
Smriti will also lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming Women’s Premier League, starting January 9 in Navi Mumbai.
