CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A winter storm warning and winter weather Advisory have been issued for overnight into Sunday morning.
Snow accumulations overnight will generally range from three to six inches with higher amounts close to 8 inches possible in parts of our northwestern zone. Lighter accumulations of around one to three inches are expected south of Interstate 80 where there could be a mix or changeover to rain as the system passes through. Behind the system, winds will be out of the north at 10 to 20 mph and this could lead to some blowing and drifting of snow.
Snow-covered roads are expected for much of eastern Iowa overnight through Sunday morning. Limit travel during that time if you can and if you do need to get on the roads, drive slowly and give other drivers around you plenty of space.
Temperatures will follow some interesting fluctuations as this system passes. By Sunday morning, temperatures range from the single digits in our northern counties to the mid 20s south of interstate 80. Temperatures will be steady or falling through the day on Sunday as skies turn mostly sunny by Sunday afternoon. Lows falll into the single digits below zero Sunday night under partly cloudy skies.
Highs Monday are in the 20s and we rebound to the 30s for the middle of next week as another chance for rain and snow arrives Wednesday into Thursday.
