Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet welcomed their first baby together earlier this year, joining an intriguing racing family.
Their daughter was born in April, and could now see her dad win his fifth straight Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship as he enters the season finale in Abu Dhabi chasing down leader Lando Norris.
While Verstappen’s F1 career, which includes four consecutive F1 world titles, is well-known, his partner Piquet also has a fascinating motorsport history that many might not be familiar with. We’ve taken a look at the interesting love life of the F1 power couple, who could find themselves celebrating again.
Who is Kelly Piquet?
You might recognize her as Verstappen’s partner, but Piquet has also carved out a name for herself. The Brazilian, born in Germany, juggles a variety of professions.
She has an impressive modeling portfolio, having collaborated with brands like PatBo and Lucas Boccalao, and has graced numerous runways. In 2015, she was responsible for managing the social media coverage for Formula E.

Piquet also writes a column for Marie Claire magazine. Before launching her career, she interned with Vogue Latinoamerica and Bergdorf Goodman.
She is a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College, in New York City, where she majored in International Relations with a focus on political science and economics.
Max Verstappen’s staggering net worth
Verstappen’s fortune has soared to a staggering $300 million, according to the Netherlands’ Quote 500 rich list. The racing ace is thought to earn a base paycheck of roughly $60 million from Red Bull and is even launching his own GT racing outfit.
This massive figure doesn’t include any performance-related bonuses or other profitable brand deals and investments that are certain to boost his bank balance further. Verstappen also lives it up in the tax-free paradise of Monte Carlo, Monaco, where he’s exempt from paying income tax.

Piquet’s racing lineage
Piquet brings her own motorsport pedigree to the table, as the offspring of F1 icon Nelson Piquet, who secured the world drivers championship three times. Nelson competed in F1 from 1978 to 1991, claiming victory in 1981, 1983, and 1987.
Back in January, Verstappen offered a glimpse into his relationship with Nelson when he revealed: “We don’t really talk about motorsport. He has talked about that more than enough in his life.

“At a certain point you don’t feel like doing it anymore, you’re done talking about it. I understand that, there is more to life.”
Piquet’s F1 ex-boyfriend
Prior to her current relationship with Verstappen, Piquet dated Russian driver Daniil Kyvat from 2017 to 2019. Piquet and Kyvat had a daughter, Penelope, in 2019 before going their separate ways later that year.
Verstappen has been standing by Piquet as they raise their daughter together. Verstappen and Kyvat have a shared history in the racing world, dating back to 2016 when Verstappen was bumped up from Toro Rosso to Red Bull.

This promotion led to Kyvat losing his spot after he crashed into Sebastian Vettel twice within two corners at the Russian Grand Prix.
Following this incident, Kyvat was relegated to Red Bull’s junior team and was ultimately released at the end of the 2017 season. He now competes under a neutral flag in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Lamborghini.
