Piastri stays silent on McLaren orders ahead of insane final race

Oscar Piastri’s dream of winning the Formula One world championship came up just short following a tense finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Australian drove a brilliant race under intense pressure to finish second in the season-ending race but it just wasn’t enough for him to claim the world drivers’ title.
Piastri’s McLaren teammate Lando Norris won the championship for the first time when he crossed the line in third spot, knowing that’s all he needed to do after going into the final race with a 12-point cushion.
In the end, Norris clinched the title by just two points from Max Verstappen, who won at the Yas Marina circuit from pole position, driving a Red Bull.
The Dutchman finished 13 seconds ahead of Piastri but needed Norris to finish fourth or worse to capture a fifth successive title.
Piastri finished third in the final standings but can consider himself extremely unlucky not to have won the championship after he led for two-thirds of the season before a series of mishaps went against him.

At just 24, Piastri still has plenty of time to win the biggest prize in motorsport. He’s only been in F1 for three years and won seven Grands Prix in 2025 so has a bright future.
He’ll be disappointed not to have won the biggest prize but lost no admirers with his performances over the season.
By finishing runner-up in Abu Dhabi, he registered his podium of the season, far and away the most ever by an Australian in F1.
